Heritage Ranch opens western style date night

Since taking over the reins of the Heritage Ranch Joel Martens has attempted to add a little touch of romance western style into the operation.

Since taking over the reins of the Heritage Ranch Joel Martens has attempted to add a little touch of romance western style into the operation.

This Saturday he’s running his second in a series of Date Nights at the ranch just off Hwy 2 near the Red Deer Sports Hall of Fame and Tourism Red Deer site.

Martens, who took command of the ranch in April, has lined up Alhambra area musician, singer and songwriter Allen Christie for a performance at 7 p.m. proceeded by a steak dinner.

“We’re trying some different things but we hope to make it partly a romantic park and a night of dinner and country music by a terrific performer should please anyone,” Martens said Thursday.

Christie and his band offers an upbeat tempo with renditions of traditional country music coupled with some progressive bluegrass.

The repertoire takes you on a journey through western swing, honky-tonk, traditional cowboy, yodeling and bluegrass.

In addition to vocals Christie play guitar, banjo, mandolin and even at times a fiddle.

Martens said the $65 per person cost includes a full steak dinner featuring a bottle of wine.

“This type of night is perfect for couples who may otherwise what they could do instead of attending a movie or something.

“It’s shaping up for a nice warm night and people sitting out on the deck can even enjoy the music.”
