A Hobbema-area man is dead, and a female critically injured, after a van with five occupants rolled on a gravel road on Wednesday.

Police were called to the accident site, about five km south of Hobbema, on the Samson First Nations reserve, at about 2:25 p.m.

Investigators believe the driver of a northbound van lost control on the gravel and rolled the vehicle. All five occupants were adults from the area.

The 31-year-old female driver was rushed by ground ambulance to an Edmonton hospital, where she remains with serious to critical injuries.

The other three passengers were treated for less serious injuries.

Road and weather conditions were fair.

The roll-over is still under investigation and criminal charges are pending.
