Don Solberg relaxes in the living room of his new house in Red Deer’s Westlake subdivision.
The Benalto man won the $650,000 furnished home in the Alberta Health Services Hospitals Lottery.
It was the first time a house had been offered as a grand prize. Other prizes included cars, trucks, TVs, cash and electronics totalling $990,000.
Proceeds from the lottery will be used to purchase state-of-the-art scopes for Central Alberta gastroenterology and urology programs.
A photo caption in Tuesday’s Advocate contained some incorrect information. Don Solberg of Benalto won the grand prize in the David Thompson Health Region Foundation’s 2009 Hospital Lottery. He was among 425 winners of nearly $1 million in prizes in the lottery. Proceeds from the lottery go to fund health projects only in Central Alberta. The foundation raised $500,000 this year, with proceeds to enhance gastroenterology and urology programs.
