A preliminary inquiry will be held next September for two men charged after police seized drugs, cash and firearms from three Red Deer residences and a storage unit in Edmonton in July.

During the raids, police found $60,000 worth of drugs, $65,000 in cash and eight firearms.

Ahmed Madhi Nur, 28, and Raed Abdulla, 29, both each face about 40 charges and the preliminary inquiry will be held on Sept. 21 and 26.

Nur has been in custody since charges were laid on July 12 and appeared in Red Deer provincial court on Thursday by closed circuit television.

A preliminary inquiry is held to determine if there’s enough evidence to warrant an accused be tried in Court of Queen’s Bench.

Charges against them include trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of the proceeds of crime and instructing an offence for a criminal organization.

They also face weapons-related charges, including multiple counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, tampering with a serial number, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited loaded weapon.
