Left hand turns will soon be easier at a couple of 30th Avenue intersections.

Work started this week to add a second turning lane for northbound motorists on 30th Avenue who want to turn west at Carrington Drive to access the Clearview Ridge neighbourhood, including businesses in the Clearview Market Square area.

Drivers should plan for delays and consider taking an alternate route as the work will require lane closures and traffic disruptions.

City engineering services manager Russ Watts said the left turning lane was getting busier and vehicles were spilling out of that lane due to growth in the area and an overall increase in traffic on 30th Avenue.

He said the intersection was constructed to be able to increase capacity so a second turning lane can easily be added to reduce traffic congestion.

A 148-suite, five-storey apartment building also happens to be under construction at 6 Colby Ave. near Clearview Market Square.

Watts said adding the turning lane now will help when the apartment building is occupied, so it's good timing.

Elsewhere on 30th Avenue, work has been underway at the intersection of 22nd Street to install left-turning lanes from 22nd Street onto 30th Avenue in both the east and west directions.

Watt said converting the intersection to include opposing left turn bays on 22nd Street will help drivers to better see oncoming traffic, and it should also help with capacity.

Work at the Carrington Drive and the 22nd Street intersections should be finished by mid-July.

Watts encouraged motorists to obey all traffic control signs in those construction areas.

"Keep our workers safe so they can get home to their families every night."
