Leadership Centre to announce ‘secret’ plans

The Leadership Centre will make two secret announcements at its upcoming 10-year anniversary reception.

The organization will unveil plans to continue fostering strong leaders for the betterment of the community, said Linda Wilson, executive director.

“I think we’ve just built a stronger community and we’ll do nothing but continue to do that in the future.”

The event will also highlight milestones at the centre in the past decade, including the 21 community projects that students have facilitated throughout the years while enrolled in the Leadership Networks program.

In its inaugural year, for example, students worked with the Downtown Business Association to create CentreFest, a street performer festival held every July.

This year’s students have been working on five projects, including a collaboration with the City of Red Deer to conduct research on poverty in Red Deer.

The two groups currently enrolled in the seven-month program are expected to graduate by mid-June and that will bring the alumni total to 161.

The Leadership Centre provides hands-on education to those working in business, government, not-for-profit and community sectors who are interested in further developing their leadership skills.

The 10th anniversary celebration takes place on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Red Deer County Centre.

The event is open to Leadership Centre alumni, founders and sponsors.
