Local interest in running for the NDP in the federal election heated up Thursday when city councillor Paul Harris was confirmed as one of those seeking the nomination for Red Deer - Mountain View.

Stephen Merredew, president of the Red Deer - Mountain View NDP constituency association, said Harris as well as the two others already seeking the same nomination — Evan Bedford and Diane Macaulay — will be out meeting the public at several venues on Saturday.

The date of the nomination vote is expected to take place later this month, and is still being finalized, Merredew said.

Already confirmed candidates for the riding include Conservative Earl Dreeshen and James Walper, who is running for the Libertarian party.
