Local United way campaign nearly halfway home

The United Way of Central Alberta is nearly half way to its goal.

The United Way of Central Alberta is nearly half way to its goal.

In the first nine weeks of the campaign, $953,000, or 49 per cent, was raised towards the United Way’s $1.96 million goal.

Central Alberta has about 11 more weeks to contribute to the United Way of Central Alberta’s 2011 fundraising campaign.

The campaign wraps up at the end of January.

“Now that we are entering into the second half, we need to remind everyone that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to achieve our community goal and to ensure that necessary programs and services are supported in Central Alberta,” said Lars Rogers, 2011 campaign co-chair.

United Way’s annual fundraising campaign raises money for 32 community agencies that assist one in three Central Albertans each year.

Last year, donations helped over 92,000 people, including 19,441 low-income individuals and families who received food, clothing and shelter.

In 2010, the United Way fell short of its $2-million fundraising goal, raising $1.9 million.
