Inmate routines were expected to get back to normal at Bowden Institution on Tuesday, 24 hours after the federal prison placed a lockdown.
Rita Wehrle, assistant warden for management services, said that the lockdown was expected to be lifted at 1 p.m.
At about 12 p.m. on Monday, the medium-security federal prison was placed on lockdown so that staff could search the buildings.
“We had intelligence there was contraband,” said Wehrle on Tuesday. “It was determined it would jeopardize the safety of the institution. We secured the contraband.”
Details on what the contraband was has not been provided.
The institution is home to 696 medium-security inmates and 117 inmates who live in the minimum-security annex.
