Knife violence landed a 19-year-old man in hospital and a 17-year-old girl in police custody on Tuesday.

Red Deer City RCMP responded to an assault in progress at an apartment building in the 4700 block of 55th Street at 6:45 p.m. A physical altercation in the apartment’s hallway escalated and a knife was produced, according to an RCMP news release.

Police found a male and female both suffering injuries. The male, “suffering from an undisclosed number of wounds,” was transported to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. He was treated and released.

The 17-year-old girl was treated and released into police custody. As a youth, she can’t be named. She faces one charge of assault with a weapon, one of mischief under $5,000 and one of failure to comply with probation.

She was released from custody with conditions and is set to appear in Red Deer provincial court on April 15.

The two were known to each other, police said.
