A man allegedly facing 33 criminal charges in communities throughout Alberta was slapped with another 18 charges after being arrested in Red Deer earlier this week.

RCMP were called about 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday when someone reported a stolen vehicle in the north end of the city. The victim told police a co-worker was following the vehicle.

The stolen vehicle was tracked to the parking lot of Totem Building Supplies at 7730 Gaetz Ave. The driver got out and tried to flee but was arrested by police without incident.

A search of the suspect uncovered a number of stolen identification and credit cards.

Police allege the suspect gave them a false name on his arrest. A suspect was later identified with help from the Canadian Police Services Centre in Ottawa.

It is alleged the suspect was also wanted on outstanding warrants for 33 criminal charges laid by police in Edmonton, Camrose, Lake Louise and Banff.

Jeffery Kurylo, 29, of no fixed address has been charged with 12 counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts of break and enter, two counts of obstructing a police officer and one count each of stolen property over $5,000 and taking a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner.

He was scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court today (Friday Jan. 14). He remains in custody.
