A 22-year-old man is dead after an apparent shooting in Red Deer on Tuesday evening.

Another man, 18 years old, was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital and was treated and released.

At approximately 7 p.m. Red Deer City RCMP responded to a possible shots fired complaint in the vicinity of 63rd Street and 59th Avenue in Red Deer.

Police responded and located two men inside a vehicle, both males were injured.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the typically quiet Highland Green neighbourhood.

One woman was in her front yard when she heard “pop, pop, pop.” She came out from behind the fence to see a lot of commotion around a silver BMW and an old motorcycle, with people running around.

She heard people shouting, “He’s shot. He’s shot.”

The woman said she has not seen the men or the vehicle before in her neighbourhood.

“I don’t know what happened,” she said. “It just all happened way too quick.”

Another resident just moved into the area and did not want her name used. The mother of two was in the house with her children when she heard the shots.

She looked out her front window to see men in a silver BMW and another man on a motorcycle arguing.

She heard, “This isn’t funny. This isn’t funny.”

Red Deer RCMP said no further information is available at this time.
