A man who held up an Innisfail convenience store for cigarettes pleaded guilty in Red Deer provincial court on Wednesday.

Thomas Joseph Hanger, 18, of Innisfail pleaded guilty to robbery with violence and using a disguise with intent in connection with a robbery on Feb. 7.

Innisfail RCMP arrested three males from the town in connection with a robbery at a 24-hour gas station and convenience store at about 4 a.m.

Police allege that one suspect assaulted the lone male employee while the other two loaded cigarettes into bags. They then fled in a vehicle and were arrested shortly after.

The victim suffered injuries that didn’t require medical attention.

Police will not disclose the type of weapon but said it was not a gun.

Hanger will be back in court on Friday, May 20, for a pre-sentence report and sentencing. It’s expected that a charge of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose will be withdrawn at that time.

Two teenaged males, aged 15 and 16, were also charged in connection with the incident.
