Man reserves plea on fraud-related charges, remains in custody

A man charged with skipping out on court orders from Nova Scotia, who faces fraud-related charges in Red Deer, will remain in custody following a court appearance on Friday.

David Allan MacMullin, 29, reserved his plea on six fraud charges and disobeying a Nova Scotia court order, when he appeared in provincial court. He returns to court on Oct. 28 for a bail hearing. The Crown said it will oppose his release.

Court heard that a man is alleged to have defrauded a local car dealership of $40,000 on a vehicle on Oct. 8.

The same day, he allegedly defrauded a local bank of $1,400.

On Oct. 14, the accused allegedly used false pretences at another bank to open an account with a daily withdrawal limit of $2,500 in addition to a $500 overdraft.

RCMP say the man allegedly used the stolen identification to obtain various goods, open bank accounts and apply for bank loans. At the time of the suspect’s arrest, he had two stolen wallets in his possession. RCMP say the suspect was able to withdraw money from a victim’s bank account.

On Oct. 17, the accused is alleged to have given an RCMP officer false identification during a vehicle stop.

The next day, the man is alleged to have possessed two stolen driver’s licences in his possession.

The total charges include two counts of possession of stolen property of less than $5,000 and single counts of fraud, obstructing a police officer, personation with intent and failing to comply with an undertaking.
