A 38-year-old man will be sentenced in July after pleading guilty to robbing a convenience store on May 30.

Erwin Kommnick of Red Deer, will be sentenced July 31 after pleading guilty to robbery when he appeared in provincial court Wednesday.

An assault charge plea wasn’t entered but will accompany the robbery charge to the sentencing date. It’s expected to be withdrawn.

Police said earlier a man entered the Express 24 on Erickson Drive and demanded cash and cigarettes from a clerk.

The man waived a knife and made verbal demands.

He then physically assaulted the clerk and left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The assailant didn’t use the knife during the assault.

Surveillance tape was obtained by police who identified the culprit.

Kommnick was arrested about a week later at a city residence.
