Police have upgraded charges against a 58-year-old resident of Maskwacis.
On Oct. 9, Maskwacis RCMP received a report of an assault at a residence on Louis Bull First Nation. The 66-year-old victim, Gary Gordon Raine was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Raine died from his injuries on Oct. 13, 2023.
Originally, the 58-year-old suspect was charged with attempted murder, but on Oct. 20, RCMP upgraded that charge to second degree murder based on an investigation by Maskwacis RCMP and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit.
The 58-year-old was due in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Dec. 19.
