Only three nominations were filed for the council of six on nomination day in 2007. In this situation, the Municipal Government Act allows additional nomination forms to be accepted only until the minimal amount required are received.

Fast forward three years and a much different story played out.

Three times more candidates filed papers by the noon deadline on Monday than those who submitted nominations in 2007.

Of the nine individuals seeking a spot on the Olds council, only three are incumbents.

Mayor Judy Dahl, who ran against one-time town councillor Kris Bojda in 2007, was acclaimed to her third term.

The Olds municipal election will be held at the Olds Legion from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 18.

Advance votes will be held in council chambers at the town office on Oct. 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those who are unable to cast a vote on Oct. 18.
