Red Deer Mayor Morris Flewwelling will be honoured with an aboriginal Cree name today.

Flewwelling is being adopted by local Elders Frank and Rosena Winnie and will receive his new Cree name during a special naming ceremony at 1 p.m. at Fort Normandeau, located just west of Hwy 2 off 32nd Street.

The naming component will be preceded by a pipe ceremony. No photos are to be taken during the pipe ceremony but can be taken during the naming ceremony. The public is invited to attend.

Receiving an aboriginal name is a very high honour within the aboriginal community. It reflects the mayor’s strong dedication to building a relationship between his office and the community over the years.
