A Red Deer man was charged Thursday with second-degree murder in the death of an 18-month-old infant who died last October.

Red Deer RCMP were called to the Red Deer hospital on Oct. 12 after a male infant came in by ambulance with suspicious injuries.

The injuries occured at a residence in the 4800 block of 46th Street.

The Red Deer boy was transported by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He died from his injuries at 3:40 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Evan Gilmer, 30, remains in custody and will appear on the charge in Red Deer provincial court on Monday.

Gilmer, who is the boyfriend of the infant’s mother, was originally arrested by police on Oct. 12 but was not charged at that time.
