Murder suspect makes court appearance

A 20-year-old man charged in connection with the shooting death of Brandon Prevey in Red Deer last year made a brief court appearance on Thursday.

A 20-year-old man charged in connection with the shooting death of Brandon Prevey in Red Deer last year made a brief court appearance on Thursday.

Christopher Ryan McIvor has been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He was arrested on Tuesday in a Red Deer residence.

Red Deer lawyer Will Willms, acting as an agent for McIvor’s lawyer, reserved pleas on the charges in Red Deer provincial court. McIvor is due back in court on Monday.

A second man facing the same charges in relation to Prevey’s death is also scheduled to appear in Red Deer court on Monday. Pedro Julio Saenz, 21, was arrested in Calgary on Tuesday.

A third man, Brandon Cody Smith, 22, of Calgary has also been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder. He remains at large and an arrest warrant has been issued.

A fourth man was charged in March with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Christopher Martin Fleig, 25, has been ordered to undergo a psychological assessment at the Southern Alberta Forensic Centre. He returns to court today.

Brandon Neil Prevey, 29, was shot to death in a vehicle after attending a house party on Ibbotson Close in southeast Red Deer on April 5, 2009.

Prevey, also known as “Commando,” was sitting in the driver’s seat of a Jeep with a woman sitting next to him when a black Pontiac Pursuit with two men in it pulled up sometime around 3 a.m.

Someone inside the car began firing shots, striking Prevey several times. The woman wasn’t hit.
