Ziggy is a fun name, Melissa Zimmermann said on Monday, but it likely won’t be the one.

These are some of the 228 names submitted to Zimmermann, a pregnant photographer from Stettler, on her blog in consideration for her unborn child.

“This went way further than we ever anticipated,” said Zimmermann, 23, listing off all the media outlets that covered the baby-naming raffle she launched on Feb. 5. “It was all fun.”

Zimmermann randomly picked one of the 98 people who submitted name suggestions. The lucky woman who suggested Cassidy won herself $50 worth of free photography services from Zimmermann, but told Zimmermann to find a local family who can’t afford such perks and give it to them.

Cassidy isn’t necessarily what Zimmermann and her husband will choose to name their baby boy, but she said she’ll take it into consideration, as she will with the other suggested names.

She said they’ll “quite possibly” take their baby’s name from the long list, from which they have about 15 names shortlisted.

“We’re going to have to take some time to find the perfect one.”

Zimmermann expects to give birth in eight weeks.
