Red Deer residents are invited to learn just how nice being naughty can be.

The fifth annual Red Deer Taboo Naughty but Nice Show kicks off on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Parkland Pavilion at Westerner Park.

“It’s the wildest and sexiest show that comes to Red Deer for sure,” said Darryl Rosengreen, the show director.

“It’s certainly meant for anyone who has a healthy interest in sex and relationships.”

The three-day consumer trade show is anchored by what Rosengreen labeled the “three E’s” – education, entertainment and erotic shopping.

Workshops vary from lap dance instruction to sensual education and toy tips.

Entertainment will include body painting and a variety of dance showcases, including pole, burlesque, and female and male exotic.

And approximately 65 vendors will exhibit everything from candles and hot tubs to lubes, lotions and toys.

Rosengreen said those who attended the show in previous years can expect this year’s exhibitors to feature the latest products that are becoming more and more high-tech.

“The event is just meant to be fun,” he said, adding the focus isn’t so much on sex as it is on being sexy.

“It’s not meant to be offensive to anyone in anyway.”

“It’s a lot of fun,” said Natalie Brooks, founder of Chair Tease Dance in Red Deer. “We love the Taboo show.”

This is the third year the studio will set up an exhibit at the show in addition to having a seven-member troupe performing on the main stage throughout the weekend.

Brooks said enrolment at the dance studio always increases after the three days of Taboo and gave credit to the show for providing people with the opportunity to further explore and understand adult-based businesses.

“The Taboo show is really big business for us,” she said.

During the event, anywhere from 200 to 300 people sign up to be included on the company’s email distribution list to learn more about the studio.

Brooks, a retired professional couples dancer, opened Chair Tease Dance in 2008 to offer everyday women the opportunity to feel confident as they move. She stressed the studio does not provide stripping instruction.

It’s expected that a crowd between 10,000 and 15,000 will attend the weekend show and Rosengreen said the audience demographic is typically 70 per cent women between the ages of 18 and 35.

The Taboo Naughty but Nice Show runs on Friday from 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Tickets are $15 at the door or can be purchased for $10 online at www.tabooshow.com. Friday night is Diva Night, where women receive two-for-one ticket pricing.

The show is licensed for alcohol. Minors cannot attend.
