A newly recruited family physician is now accepting patients in Red Deer after opening a practice at Saint Mary Clinic.

Dr. Hamid Khalefa is a fully licensed family medicine physician who has started a full-time family medicine practice after being recruited to the community. He is now accepting patients and can be reached at 403-342-2234.

“I love Alberta where my two little kids were born and raised, and where I first landed in this country,” said Khalefa.

“I enjoy the outdoors and being close to nature, and the nearby Rocky Mountains offer a great chance for lots of activities.”

Previously, Dr. Khalefa had practised in Chetwynd, B.C., since 2021. He received his medical education at Mansoura University in Egypt. An Alberta Health Services media release states Khalefa enjoys lane and lake swimming, soccer, cycling, fishing, hunting and playing piano in his free time.

With the addition of Khalefa, Saint Mary Clinic now has 20 physicians serving the community.

“Family doctors are vital to the health of Alberta families and communities,” said Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health and MLA for Red Deer-North.

“Dr. Khalefa and his family are a welcome addition to Red Deer, and he is sure to be a great asset to our community.”

AHS continues to recruit for physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs.

“AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities,” said an AHS media release.

“They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.”
