New resource centre for teachers at RDC library

Students in Red Deer and across the province will benefit from a new resource centre for teachers at the Red Deer College library.

Students in Red Deer and across the province will benefit from a new resource centre for teachers at the Red Deer College library.

The career and technology studies resource centre is one of just two in the province, with the other located in Calgary.

The centre will offer print, digital and online resources for more than 1,000 career and technology studies courses such as computing science, financial management, mechanics, fashion studies and cosmetology offered through the Catholic and public schools.

The official launch of the Career and Technology Studies Learning and Teaching Resource Review Centre is open to educators from Central and Northern Alberta and is set for Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the RDC library.

The centre is run by the Red Deer Catholic Regional School Division as the lead on the project, but is open to both public and Catholic teachers in Central and Northern Alberta. The three-year project is funded through Alberta Education, with seven other school districts, Red Deer College and the Central Alberta Regional Consortium involved in the centre.

CTS project director Paul Couillard said all of the information is up to date, with nothing older than five years being available at the centre, something that is critical for technology courses. The resource centre can help teachers find the proper resources for their courses and allow them to have a chance to view them before purchasing them, said Couillard, who is also the CTS department head at Notre Dame High School in Red Deer.

Besides having the chance to look at various educational resources, teachers can also take part in webinars and videoconferencing through the centre, or look through information on the website at http://rdc.libguides.com/cts.
