Olds RCMP helped seize fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine while executing a search warrant on Sept. 1.
The drugs were discovered as the result of an ongoing drug investigation by Olds RCMP on Aug. 31 at a local hotel.
RCMP alleged officers engaged with the male occupant of a room, were invited inside, and saw a quantity of what they believed to be fentanyl. The suspect was arrested, the room was secured, and a warrant to search was obtained.
The next day, Olds RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, Olds RCMP, Didsbury RCMP, along with the Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR) executed the search warrant.
Police seized about 560 grams of suspected fentanyl, just under 100 grams of suspected cocaine, 12 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 680 contraband cigarettes, and other items often used in drug trafficking.
A 25-year-old resident of Olds was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, mischief and two provincial offences relating to the cigarettes. He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was released to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on Oct. 21.
“Drug enforcement continues to be a priority for the Olds RCMP to ensure the safety and security of the public. We will continue to work in partnership with other agencies, and members of the public to ensure that we deal aggressively with drugs and drug dealers in our community," said the RCMP in a statement.
