Partnership honoured

A regional partnership formed in Mountain View County has been recognized with a provincial award.

The Municipal Minister of Municipal Affairs’ Awards for Municipal Excellence are handed out each year to recognize communities showing leadership and strategic thinking. The province looks at how communities addressed issues such as sustainability, urban and environmental planning, community safety, public education and municipal co-operation.

This year’s recipient is the Mountain View County Municipal Area Partnership that was developed with the Towns of Carstairs, Didsbury, Olds, and Sundre, and the Village of Cremona.

“The municipalities developed an innovative process for working together to seek sustainable and diversified tax bases under a regional umbrella,” says a news release from Municipal Affairs.

The award was to be handed out at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association convention centre in Calgary Friday.

Other Municipal Excellence Award winners this year include: Lethbridge, County of Athabasca, Clearwater County and the Summer Villages of Argentia Beach, Crystal Springs, Golden Days, Grandview, Ma-Me-O Beach, Norris Beach and Poplar Bay.
