A Red Deer teacher was one of seven teachers from across Canada to receive the National Award for Teaching Excellence in Physical and Health Education this year.
Physical education specialist Scott Luck, with École Central Middle School, was presented with the award from Physical and Health Education Canada in honour of his exceptional teaching and leadership in promoting wellness and physical literacy in schools.
Central Middle principal Amanda Wilson, said Scott is an exceptional teacher who creates inclusive, high-quality programs that cater to widely diverse student needs.
He adapts lessons using translation tools, tactile clues, auditory signals, and specialized equipment, ensuring all students, including those with physical or social-emotional challenges, can participate.
Luck also goes above and beyond to create and provide meaningful, innovative experiences for students by offering daily intramurals, coaching extracurricular sports, as well as driving the bus for and supporting teams he isn't coaching.
He instills a lifelong love of physical activity, transforming his students' lives with his dedication and creative, adaptable teaching methods.
Luck began his career in Edmonton before coming to Red Deer to teach at Hunting Hills High School, and later joined École Central Middle where he’s spent the past eight years helping students discover the joy of movement.
