Laying an a shady spot, Max keeps an eye on the project as his owner, Rene Michalak and Diane Hermary set out the first pieces of lumber for a raised bed garden plot in Oriole Park on Monday. Located at the Victory Church on Oberlin Avenue, the nine raised beds measuring 1.8 metres x 3.6 metres and .6 metre high will contain flowers or vegetables or whatever those looking after the plots would like to grow said Michalak. The City of Red Deer has supplied the lumber and the soil while volunteers have been recruited to build the beds and maintain them. This is the third project of its kind in the city with plots in Normandeau at the Unity Baptist Church and at the Sunnybrook United Church. Anyone interested in helping build the raised beds in Oriole Park are welcome to come out at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
