Red Deer city RCMP have called in reinforcements to search for a woman suspected of disappearing into the bush in north-end neighbourhood of Pines.

Amanda Maurice, 30, has been missing since Monday afternoon.

Spokesman Const. Chris Kosack said that volunteers with Red Deer Search and Rescue did a cursory search of the area on Wednesday night.

The volunteers started doing a larger search on Thursday in the forested area north of 67th Street and west of the Riverside Drive bridge. An RCMP helicopter was also being used in the search.

“She’s been known for going into the wooded area,” said Kosack at about 1:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Maurice is believed to be suffering from depression and may be suicidal.

She left her home on Monday at about 2 p.m. and didn’t return when expected. A missing person’s report was filed on Tuesday afternoon.

Maurice is described as Caucasian, stands 1.78 metres (five feet, 10 inches) tall and weighs 78 kg (160 lbs). She has brown hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a blue ski jacket.
