A Stettler RCMP constable and the driver of another vehicle escaped serious injuries when their vehicles collided in Erskine Saturday night.

The officer was en-route to help a neighbouring detachment around 5 p.m. and was travelling westbound on Hwy 12 when he collided with a Dodge quad cab pickup at the intersection of Hwy 835.

It is believed that the officer was trying to over take the line of vehicles also travelling west when he hit the pickup truck driver who was turning south onto Hwy 835.

The officer had his emergency lights and siren activated at the time.

The police cruiser rolled several times and landed on its wheels in the south ditch after being heavily damaged. The officer walked away with only minor injuries.

The truck came to a stop on Hwy 12 just west of the intersection, and the vehicle sustained serious damage to the front end and left side.

The truck driver, a 26-year-old male from the Stettler area, was taken to Stettler Hospital where he was examined by doctors.

Stettler Fire Department, Stettler Emergency Services, RCMP Collision Reconstructionist and a RCMP officer from Wetaskiwin assisted in the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Road and weather conditions were good at the time of the collision.

No charges have been laid.

Police would like to thank witnesses who came to the aid of both drivers.
