Police end Oriole Park standoff with use of taser

Red Deer City RCMP used a taser to subdue a man who was armed with a knife on Tuesday night.

Red Deer City RCMP used a taser to subdue a man who was armed with a knife on Tuesday night.

At 11:40 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Oriole Park and were confronted with an agitated man.

A standoff between police and the man ensued.

Police used a variety of intervention methods and eventually subdued him with a Taser.

The 48-year-old man was arrested and taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, where he was admitted and treated for multiple self-inflicted injuries.

Police say alcohol is a contributing factor and they continue to investigate.
