Police release identity of woman found dead in Red Deer industrial area

A young aboriginal woman from the Calgary area has been identified as the murder victim found in the Riverside Industrial area in Red Deer on Wednesday morning.

A young aboriginal woman from the Calgary area has been identified as the murder victim found in the Riverside Industrial area in Red Deer on Wednesday morning.

Talia Nellie Meguinis, 27, was found dead around 9:28 a.m. on Wednesday.

A police constable at the Tsuu T’ina Nation Police Service said that Meguinis had extended family members on the reserve and they are in the grieving process. The officer did not want to be identified, Further information was not provided.

Red Deer City RCMP Const. Shaun Marchand said on Friday that police do not want to compromise the investigation and are withholding specific information, including the cause of death.

Police were first treating the death as suspicious. It was upgraded to a homicide investigation after an autopsy.

The Red Deer City RCMP general investigation section continues to investigate with the assistance from Red Deer major crime unit, police dog service, special tactical operations and the victims service unit.
