Two people face several drug-related charges following a bust in the Grandview area of Red Deer on Monday.

Fred Shaver, 54, of Red Deer was arrested and remains in custody on two counts of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

His first scheduled provincial court appearance is March 22.

An 18-year-old woman faces one count of possession of a controlled substance. She appears in court on May 4. Her name wasn’t released because the court information hadn’t been sworn as of Tuesday.

A 22-year-old Red Deer woman was arrested but released from custody without being charged.

Cpl. Kathe DeHeer of city RCMP said Tuesday police seized more than 850 tablets of ecstasy and quantities of crystal meth, marijuana and hydromorphone, a drug used to treat extreme pain.

Cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia was also seized.

Officers from the city, Red Deer rural and Sylvan Lake detachments participated in the bust in the 4200 block of 41st Avenue.

DeHeer said ecstasy use among young people is becoming a growing concern.

She said the drug, also known as E, X, or love drug, is “produced in illegal laboratories by criminals who have no regard for public health or safety.”
