Police warn of frauds involving oilfield equipment

Police are alerting the public about a series of frauds involving the purchase of oilfield equipment.

Police are alerting the public about a series of frauds involving the purchase of oilfield equipment.

A tall caucasian man presented himself as Larry Armstrong to a number of Central Alberta businesses and said he wanted to purchase oilfield equipment.

The man claimed to represent various oilfield companies, but the purchase order numbers he provided later turned out to be fraudulent.

The businesses he approached have been defrauded of $8,000 of products so far. In some cases, the male had arranged to have the products shipped to various pick up points throughout the province.

Since these crimes occurred in various Alberta communities, police are asking any businesses who have been victimized by a similar fraud to report it to their local police station.

Anyone with information about the male suspect’s identity is asked to call Red Deer City RCMP at 403-343-5575.

Those wishing to remain anonymous can call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or report it on-line at www.tipsubmit.com. If the information leads to an arrest, tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
