Ponoka RCMP were called to the Ponoka post office on Monday after a small amount of white powder was found in containers used to transport mail from Edmonton to the town.

Mounties responded at about 8:15 a.m.

The post office was closed and the suspected containers sealed until emergency services from Ponoka and Red Deer, along with RCMP could examine them.

Ponoka RCMP say the substance didn’t reveal anything suspicious and the post office was reopened.

Police say it’s not being treated as a criminal act at this time. Canada Post is continuing to look into this incident to determine the powder’s origin.
