The Alberta Government is seeking nominations for the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame “honours individuals who have advanced Alberta’s agriculture industries, food industries and rural life.”

Nomination forms and a list of past inductees are available on the province’s website. Nominations close on May 3.

Every two years, up to three individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership while making a province-wide impact on their industries are inducted.

“I am continually impressed by the dedication and pride demonstrated by our agricultural and agri-food leaders,” said RJ Sigurdson, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation.

“The Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame gives community members the opportunity to recognize those leaders by nominating them for this prestigious award. I look forward to celebrating the 2024 inductees this fall.”

According to a release, since its inception in 1951, the Hall of Fame has recognized 141 men and women who have made significant contributions to the agriculture and food industry, and to the development and sustainability of rural life in Alberta.

Past recipients have included prolific researchers, visionaries in beef cattle breeding, groundbreakers in zero tillage, innovators in agri-foods and passionate educators who have helped Albertans connect with their local food systems.

Thomas (Lacombe, 2010), Dr. James Henry Helm (Lacombe, 2002), Jack Gaylyn Gorr (Three Hills 1998), James Panton Christie (Trochu, 1994), Allan (Hoss) Hammer (Red Deer, 1991), Martin Kaufmann (Lacombe, 1987), Jacqueline Jevne (Millet, 1987), Beatrice Parlby (Alix, 1987), John Stothart (Lacombe, 1983), Hazel Eva Braithwaite (Sylvan Lake, 1978), Wilfrid J.
