Some space is still available for members of the public wanting to attend a tourism talk Thursday.

Tourism Red Deer is hosting speaker Ken Fiske, vice-president of economic and tourism development for the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, who will discuss a voluntary destination marketing fund, or DMF, and how it has worked in Edmonton.

A DMF is a method of creating sustainable funding to be used for marketing a destination or event, usually taking the form of a percentage charge on room rates for accommodation.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about DMFs and how it may apply to Red Deer in the future,” said a Tourism Red Deer media release. “Currently there is no local voluntary DMF in place in our city.”

Fiske’s talk runs 5-7 p.m. at the Westerner Park chalet and is part of Tourism Red Deer’s Let’s Talk Tourism speaker series.

Admission is free but those interested must register ahead of time by calling 403-346-0180.
