Red Deer RCMP is investigating the death of a four-month-old girl who was brought into hospital with severe head injuries.

Red Deer RCMP is investigating the death of a four-month-old girl who was brought into hospital with severe head injuries.

The baby was brought into Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre about 6:30 p.m. on Friday with life-threatening head injuries.

The child was then transferred by STARS air ambulance to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. RCMP were called about 8:30 p.m. after the child arrived at that hospital.

The baby girl died at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday.

The death is being treated as suspicious. An autopsy will be performed in Edmonton on Monday, said Const. Sabrina Clayton.

Police are investigating what happened before the child ended up in the hospital. “Currently we’re trying to establish how this child sustained her injuries.”

The name of the victim has not been released.

Red Deer RCMP general investigation section is investigating with assistance from the forensic investigation section and K Division major crimes unit.
