Red Deer County celebrated firefighters, emergency management workers and patrol officers at the first ever Protective Services Awards Gala.
The awards gala took place on Jan. 11 and honoured the outstanding contributions, dedication and bravery displayed by the individuals and teams working to safeguard Red Deer County and the surrounding communities.
“This is a memorable evening showcasing that our sense of community is our greatest strength, and that our Protective Services members really help to ensure our safety every single day,” said deputy mayor Lonny Kennett.
“We are deeply grateful for their sacrifice, and tonight, we honour their courage and commitment to protecting our residents, and ratepayers.”
The inaugural award ceremony aimed to acknowledge achievements from 2024, while celebrating Central Albertans who have gone above and beyond in the line of duty.
Award categories included: Years of Service, Alberta Emergency Service Medals, Fire Service Federal Exemplary Service medals, Battalion, Ground Search, and Rescue, RCMP Civilian Search and Rescue; and a special acknowledgement to retired members.
More than 50 people were recognized through the awards. The full list of award recipients can be found on Red Deer County's website: www.rdcounty.ca.
“We are incredibly fortunate to be served by over 120 Protective Services personnel who, with dedication and resilience, make sacrifices to ensure the safety and protection of our communities,” said Dave Brand, director of community and Protective Services.
“Tonight gives us the opportunity to truly recognize these professionals and their exceptional leadership, community engagement, and teamwork across all sectors of Protective Services. Thank you to every one of our members, their families, their friends, and their employers who support them in serving Bowden, Delburne, Elnora, and The County with an unwavering commitment to making our world a better and safer place.”
