Red Deer for Palestine will host an art gallery fundraiser next month to help combat the humanitarian crisis in Palestine.

The gallery event will feature a variety of local art pieces and installations, including a sensory tent and rubble display, an interactive art booth, along with a multi-pointed discussion period. This event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 2-7 p.m. at the Pioneer Lodge in Red Deer's Parkvale neighbourhood.

Our goal is to promote understanding, encourage political action and generate funds to aid Palestinians experiencing an ongoing genocide.

“We decided to host this event because art is inherently political, and our aim is to mobilize it as an instrument of resilience against adversity,” organizers said in a media release.

“In the face of ongoing apartheid and ethnic cleansing, these installations aim to directly confront and engage with the suffering of Palestinians, offering the public a profound and honest perspective.”

At least 50 per cent of the proceeds from art sales and 100 per cent of the proceeds from concessions will be donated to United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, which is an organization dedicated to providing relief and humanitarian aid to Palestinians, along with education, healthcare, social services, infrastructure improvements, microfinance and emergency aid to more than 5.6 million refugees.

The event will also feature a discussion led by group organizer, Terrance Gilkinson, inside the lodge from 5-6 p.m. featuring participants, including local Palestinian activist, Lara Al-hmaidat, who will detail her family’s experience of being forced from their homes during the Nakba, along with her own experiences as a Palestinian immigrant.
