Red Deer group wins $100,000 in Extra draw

Muriel Manser and 11 of her lottery group members were excited to discover that they had won $100,002 on the Jan. 14 Extra draw.

Muriel Manser and 11 of her lottery group members were excited to discover that they had won $100,002 on the Jan. 14 Extra draw.

The $30 Lotto Max ticket with the Extra entered was purchased by Manser, the group’s trustee, from West Park Foods in Red Deer.

“When I took the ticket to the store to be checked, the screen went funny and the cashier ran off to get another store employee,” said Manser.

“I didn’t know for sure that I had won until the cashier called WCLC to register the win. I was so excited that I was kind of sick to my stomach.”

The Western Canada Lottery Corp. confirmed the win and Manser called the rest of the group to fill them in on the good news.

“I couldn’t even remember the number to call the other members to let them know we had won,” she said with a laugh.

“They didn’t believe me at first, but were all very excited.”

Manser, who is close to retirement, said she plans to bank her portion of the winnings. The other group members have yet to decide what they will do with their share.
