Around 4 p.m. on Monday, a Red Deer City RCMP officer pulled over a driver who committed a minor driving infraction while he was on routine patrol. The driver gave the police officer a fake name. The driver was arrested and during the search of the vehicle a loaded semi-automatic handgun with its serial number removed was found under the driver’s seat.

Ricky Severin of Red Deer is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace; carry of a concealed weapon; two counts of possess firearm without licence; one count of knowingly operate a vehicle with a firearm; one count of possession of a firearm with the serial removed; one count of obstruction; one count of driving while disqualified; one count of transporting a firearm without reasonable precaution for safety.

Severin was released from custody on $2,500 cash bail and appears in Red Deer provincial court on Wednesday.
