The community will have a chance to shape the future of the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery.

“As a public institution of common use, involving our community in helping us chart out our course forward only makes sense,” said Chandra Kastern, Red Deer MAG director of operations.

With the support of the City of Red Deer, Rozsa Foundation, Calgary Arts Development, Calgary Foundation and the Canada Council for the Arts, the MAG will be making its way through a comprehensive community consultation process that will help shape its planning for 2025-2030 and beyond.

“We really want to understand how our community sees us, what our role is and what it could be. We offer a lot of public programming and knowing what types of programming are needed and valued by our community is important to us,” said Kastern.

“That’s why we’re asking folks to engage with us over the coming weeks, so that we can gather this information and ensure that we are mindfully relevant to the community we are serving.”

There is a community survey that is available for anyone living in central Alberta to complete open on the MAG’s website and a series of focus groups will be conducted over the next six weeks.

Throughout May there will be a series of free-to-attend creative workshops will be offered to the community at the MAG:

— Community Show and Tell: May 1 from 5:30-8 p.m.

— Chalk Drawings: May 4 1:30-4 p.m.

— Patchwork: Friday, May 10, 2024, 6-8PM

— ‘Zines: May 25 from 1-4 p.m.

— Seeding Hopes and Dreams: May 31 from 5:30-8 p.m.

For information about each workshop and to register, visit www.reddeermuseum.com/community-consultation, by calling 587- 797-4040, or by visiting the MAG at 4525 47A Ave.
