A fake Facebook page for Red Deer-North NDP candidate Kim Schreiner, which includes a post offering free cannabis for anyone joining a NDP door-knocking event, is spreading through social media.

A March 23 post on the page — Red Deer North NDP — says “If you come join us door knocking today we will throw in a free joint!”

Schreiner said the fake account opened in her name has no affiliation with her campaign or with Alberta’s NDP.

“The account has been reported to Facebook, and we will continue to report it until the page is removed,” said Schreiner in a statement.

“I am focused on running a positive campaign and spending my time in the community hearing about what matters most to residents of Red Deer North.”

Schreiner’s real Facebook page can be found at: Kim Schreiner.

In 2016, Red Deer-South MLA Barb Miller was also the victim of online harassment, with false Facebook and Twitter accounts set up in her name. Both accounts were taken down.
