A Red Deer police officer has suffered undisclosed injuries after a tussle with a driver who had been pulled over during a Checkstop.

A Red Deer police officer has suffered undisclosed injuries after a tussle with a driver who had been pulled over during a Checkstop.

Const. Sabrina Grunow, media liaison officer for the Red Deer City RCMP, said that at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, police had pulled a car over during a Checkstop at 59th Avenue and 68th Street.

Police allege that the 25-year-old driver was discovered to be driving while prohibited. It is further alleged that he attempted to bolt on foot and a fight ensued.

Nicholas Misener, 25, has been charged with one count of assaulting a police officer, one count of driving while prohibited, one count of resisting arrest and one count of breaching probation.

The suspect has been released from custody and ordered to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Dec. 15.

The police officer involved in the alleged assault was treated for injuries and has since been released from hospital.
