Members of the alumni of the Red Deer Royals Marching Band will gather Wednesday at 6 p.m. to honour the life of a beloved band director who died May 11, 2001.

The outdoor memorial to Keith Mann will be near the Westerner entrance at 19th Street where Mann was killed ten years ago when his motorcycle was rear-ended in a chain reaction collision.

“We simply want to pay our respects to Keith,” said Lisa Moisey, a member of the Red Deer Royals alumni.

At the time of the accident Mann, 61, was director of the Red Deer Royals and was the founder of the Red Deer College music program.

After his death a bronze statue was erected in the southwest corner of City Hall Park in recognition of his influence in the Red Deer community.

During the memorial service red and white flowers (traditional Royals colours) will be placed at the site and participants will observe a moment of silence, Moisey said.

Royals have been encouraged to wear their Red Deer Royals jackets.
