Central Alberta’s marching show band is Grey Cup bound.

Red Deer Royals will perform during Saturday’s 90-minute parade through Edmonton’s downtown.

The parade, in celebration of the Canadian Football League’s biggest game, will run from noon to1:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Global TV.

Band director Rob Goring said the performers will consist of new and past members.

“We have performed in Grey Cup parades before (2002 Edmonton), and with this opportunity to showcase our musicianship and marching program, we hope to represent Red Deer and area to the best of our ability,” said Goring.

Amanda Lasiuta, a Royal member from 2003 to 2010, said the opportunity to perform in the big parade, which could attract around 100,000 people, is an exciting one.

“I wouldn’t miss this for anything, especially as the Riders are in the final,” said Lasiuta.

The Grey Cup will see the Saskatchewan Roughriders square off once again against its 2009 rival and Grey Cup winner Montreal Alouettes.

The game starts at Commonwealth Stadium on Sunday at 4 p.m.
