Despite the recent snow, the City of Red Deer's annual street-sweeping program is moving full-steam ahead.

Downtown and residential street sweeping will begin on Sunday, May 5, as crews finish up sweeping medians and boulevards throughout Red Deer this week.

“In order for sweepers to get all debris off the street, we need residents to move their vehicles to off-street parking. Vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed and unfortunately the end result will be negatively impacted,” said Greg Sikora, parks and public works manager.

No Parking signs will be placed a minimum of 12 hours ahead of operations.

The city is asking pedestrians and motorists to be cautious around street and sidewalk sweeping equipment by staying at least three car lengths away to avoid injury or damage from flying debris.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for Notify Red Deer to receive a notification reminder when street sweepers will be in their area. Visit redder.ca/notify to create an account or to update alert preferences.

Residents can check their street by visiting the city's website at reddeer.ca/streetsweeping. The schedule may vary slightly depending on weather, and updates will be provided as needed.
