Rimbey man killed in snowmobile crash

A 33-year-old male, living in Rimbey but originally from eastern Canada, died in a snowmobile collision, five km north of Rimbey, on Saturday night.

A 33-year-old male, living in Rimbey but originally from eastern Canada, died in a snowmobile collision, five km north of Rimbey, on Saturday night.

The man was driving without a helmet when he hit a tree at around 8:30 p.m. on private property, five km north of Rimbey, just west of Hwy 20.

Police say the snowmobile being driven by the man was going at a high rate of speed when it hit a group of trees.

EMS personnel were called to the scene, but said the man died instantly of massive head trauma.

Rimbey RCMP have not released the man’s name.

Const. Matthew Bentz, with Rimbey RCMP, advised that people should take the proper safety precautions, such as wearing a helmet, when operating vehicles such as a snowmobile.
