A warrant was issued on Wednesday for Robert John Kushniruk, 37, the former owner of Road Runner Roofing Inc., who failed to show up for his sentencing on four charges of fraud under violations of the Fair Trades Act.

Sentencing had been delayed several times in order to allow the accused to make restitution payments to clients he admitted to scamming.

Kushniruk pleaded guilty to four charges under the Fair Trades Act in February after a plea agreement was worked out between the Crown prosecutor and his defence lawyer.

Kushniruk was ordered to repay $66,300 to former clients.

Defence lawyer Mike Scrase said he had lost contact with his client and doesn’t know how much, if any, repayments have been made.

At one time in the proceedings, the accused faced 37 charges but the majority were withdrawn in exchange for the guilty pleas.

Initial charges were laid in 2008 following an investigation by the Red Deer branch of the Department of Government Services.
